Actor's Masterclass

A Two-Day Workshop On Performing Shakespeare

We will kick off our Summer Shakespeare season with a free two-night Masterclass in Performing Shakespeare, taught by guest artist Daniela Varon.

Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24
from 7-10pm

Daniela Varon is a New York-based theater director and acting teacher, and a longtime member of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA. She directs Shakespeare, modern and contemporary plays, and has taught and guest-directed at colleges, conservatories, and actor training programs around the country. She was co-founder and Associate Director of The Company of Women, and is a Drama League Fellow and an alumna of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab. Ms. Varon is co-producer, director and moderator of the series Conversations with Shakespeare, now in its third season at Symphony Space in New York and in development for public radio. She is a teaching artist/Shakespeare specialist at Lincoln Center Theater, a founding member of the Linklater Center for Voice and Speech and a faculty member at Smith College.

The Masterclass will explore various approaches to performing Shakespearean text, including group and individual exercises, and it is open to local actors with some acting experience.

  • Shakespeare experience is not required.
  • All actors must prepare 10-14 lines of memorized Shakespeare text (verse or prose, but no sonnets, please) and bring along a hard copy of the piece.
  • Actors must be able to attend both evenings of the class in order to participate.

Thanks to support from the Women’s Impact Fund, this Masterclass in Performing Shakespeare is offered at no charge.

Space is limited to 16 actors and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
