Festivities

In celebration of our 5th anniversary, The Charlotte Shakespeare Festival will launch a new pre-show performance series called Festivities featuring a variety of local artists. Since many of our audience members arrive very early for our shows to select seats, the festival is pleased to present special pre-show entertainment starting approximately 45 minutes before each show’s curtain time.  Whet your appetite with a short performance lasting 20-40 minutes featuring local performing artists from a variety of disciplines.

Critics and Audience Rave about Othello...

"Intelligently conceived"... "spot-on"... "eloquent"... "their best production yet"... "Charlotte, fill those seats!"

Othello and DesdemonaThe Charlotte Observer calls Othello "intelligently conceived" with "enjoyable performances". "Joe Copley's Iago is spot-on", "Adam Ewer is an eloquent Cassio", "Christine Dougan rises to Emilia's fervent outcries", "Jennifer Lynn Barnette embodies Desdemona's simple sweetness", and "Derrick Parker's performance defines the tone of this production."

Read Lawrence Toppman's full review.

Bar SceneArts a la Mode calls Othello our "best production yet" and says "it is well worth a couple hours on an August night-to experience profound passions, shifting perspectives of heroism and villainy, and playful, precise, Shakespearean terms, with actors who understand and convey the script's many meanings, about the past and for today."

Creative Loafing calls Othello "a Collaborative Arts gem." "Peter Smeal's affront and rage as Brabantio are towering... As Cassio, Adam Ewer shows us how subtly drawn Othello's disgraced lieutenant is.. Derrick Parker deftly bestrides the extremes of Othello."
