Steven Dietz' gripping drama FICTION opens March 8

Our next production is FICTION by award-winning playwright Steven Dietz, playing March 8-24, 2007, at the Duke Power Theatre in Spirit Square.

Meet Michael and Linda, two happily married writers, whose successful lives begin to unravel after they agree to read one another's diaries. A mysterious woman emerges and the boundaries between past and present, fact and fiction, trust and betrayal begin to blur. No life is an open book, and the tension between trust and suspicion is at the heart of this gripping drama.

James Yost directs local veteran actors Joe Copley, Sheila Snow Proctor, and Elise Wilkinson in FICTION.

Performances take place March 8-24, 2007 on Thurs/Fri/Sat @ 8pm and Sun 3/18 @ 3pm. There will also be one "pay what you will" performance on Wed 3/21 at 8pm.

FICTION is written by one of the country's most prolific and versatile playwrights, Steven Dietz, whose works include Private Eyes, Still Life with Iris, Lonely Planet (PEN USA Award in Drama, Outer Critics Circle Nomination, Drama-Logue Award), God's Country (Society of Midland Authors Award, Off-Off-Broadway Award of Excellence), and many others.

Read what the press has to say about Steven Dietz' FICTION:

"Ultimately, FICTION is about the psychological tennis games we play in revealing ourselves. The matches Dietz has devised are dazzling on the surface, but the verbal volleys mask deep, fretful conflicts. Everything about the play has an elegance and richness our theater sees too seldom."
—Howard Kissel, New York Daily News

"This play puts a provocative spin on the eternal love triangle."
—Variety

"Take this as fact: FICTION, a new play by Steven Dietz, is a work of uncommon insight, an adult, unsparing and yet often witty look at the intimate relationship between a man and a woman during a time of crisis."
—Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press

About Collaborative Arts
Collaborative Arts was founded by Elise Wilkinson and Joe Copley in 2006 with the goal of presenting high quality, cutting-edge professional theatre productions that engage and inspire audiences. We specialize in producing both classical and contemporary plays that would not otherwise be made available in Charlotte, while partnering with existing theatre companies and artists. Collaborative Arts’ first production, Tavern Shakespeare, played to sold-out houses at RiRa uptown and our outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was seen by 2,500 people last summer and inaugurated the annual Shakespeare at The Green festival. We closed out 2006 with the popular Bad Dates, a comedy performed in a condo.
