John Hartness is a Charlotte poet with work published in Charlotte Viewpoint, Red Dirt Review, and many other literary magazines. A frequent performer with Story Slam Charlotte and Just Do It, his poems are both heartfelt and amusing, providing an opportunity for audiences to see life through the eyes of a self-proclaimed “overeducated redneck.”

Enjoy music from the Middle Ages captured by song catchers from the British Isles. Fiona McAllister, recording artist and competition champion, plays haunting selections on a 96 stringed hammered dulcimer, a parlor instrument from the 1100’s to 1500’s and precursor to the piano.
Saturday, August 7 (matinee and evening) – Ananda
Ananda is a magical merger of Celtic, classical, and new age providing a moving musical experience for all ages. The piano and violin duo performs unique original compositions and familiar favorites, reaching a variety of listeners and setting a perfect musical mood.

Local sketch comedy group Robot Johnson is influenced by the likes of Kids in the Hall, Saturday Night Live, The State, etc. Join them as they apply their unique brand of comedy to a Shakespeare-themed show.
Friday, August 13 – The Cloers
The Cloers are an acoustic duo from North Carolina. Their strong pop melodies, Cate’s county-rock vocals, and John’s percussive guitar style earned them a Regional Artist Grant from the Arts and Science Council and a 2010 Charlotte Music Award.

PJ is an award-winning songwriter who has opened for the likes of Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, and the Charlotte Symphony. She has been performing her brand of acoustic music for many years in the Charlotte area and her shows offers something for all ages.

Mama Casey is a seasoned story-teller that will take you to far away and enchanting places with her stories of culture and life. Specializing is African and African-American folktales, her mission is to preserve the oral tradition of storytelling.

Pop jazz singer/songwriter, Carrie Marshall, recently moved to Charlotte from Music City, USA. As a recording artist, she has performed with such talent as guitarist Phil Keaggy and hit songwriter, Tom Douglas (writer of recent #1 country single, “I Run to You”). Carrie’s own song “When Love was Green’ was a semi-finalist in BBC’s 2008 songwriting competition.

CAROLINA CLOWNS INC. proudly celebrates 53 years of service to Charlotte and the surrounding communities in 2010. The organization is a charitable, nonsectarian, nonprofit group of volunteers coming together to put on grease paint, red noses, funny shoes and costumes and to unselfishly give of themselves.
